Design Builder
Fagen Inc. and Fagen Engineering, LLC
Fagen, Inc. is a privately owned, heavy industrial, non-union contractor. Fagen is currently registered to do business in 33 states, prefers to self perform work, and has about 1000 skilled craftsmen on their payroll. Their success in becoming a $300 million company has been earned through their abilities to be proactive, flexible and responsive in order to provide maximum value to their customers.
Industrial construction has been and continues to be the backbone of Fagen Inc. and the formation of Fagen Engineering, LLC has given them the capacity to be the single point of responsibility for overall project execution from design through startup. This makes Fagen a Design-Build contractor with the ability to un-bundle its services to meet the needs of the client. Fagen, Inc is confident that they have all of the essential ingredients needed to be a valued member of the project execution team.
Fagen Engineering is acting as the builder on the project. Fagen possesses extensive experience in the area of heavy industrial projects, particularly agricultural based facilities. The expertise of Fagen in integrating process and facility design into a construction and operationally efficient facility is very important. In particular, Fagen, Inc. has been the prime contractor on thirteen ethanol projects currently is engaged as prime contractor on five additional ethanol projects and has performed significant work in a total of 28 ethanol plants in the U.S. In many instances, Fagen has been asked to return to the plant as the maintenance contractor or follow up construction company for major expansions. In particular, Fagen has done repeat work for Chief Ethanol Fuels and Minnesota Corn Processors who both rank in the top ten of ethanol producers.
Their understanding of operational efficiencies and integration of various process islands is important in overall profitability of the plant. Fagen also has knowledge and support to assist the HES management team in executing a successful startup. Fagen is a meaningful project participant because of its investment and desire to facilitate the project’s successful transition from startup to day-to-day profitable operation.
Process Design Engineer
ICM
ICM is a full, service engineering, manufacturing and merchandising operation. ICM, Inc. is the engineering and manufacturing company and ICM Marketing, Inc. is the grain merchandising company. Both operations operate out of 55,000 square feet of manufacturing and office space near Wichita, Kansas.
Engineering operations consist of consulting, design by Professional Engineers, procurement and project management as well as manufacturing engineering for the company’s DDG dryer and ICM/Phoenix Bio-Methanator wastewater treatment product lines.
Key people of ICM have over 60 years of combined dry and wet mill operation and design experience. These operations experiences combined with research, design, and construction of the ethanol plant since the late 1970’s makes ICM one of the most experienced ethanol design firms in the nation.
Dave Vander Griend, principal of ICM and ICM Marketing, Inc. has over twenty years of ethanol experience in design, fabrication and operations. Prior to forming ICM in 1995, Dave served as the Vice President of High Plains Corporation, successfully “turned around” their 20 MGY ethanol plant in Colwich in the late 1980s, formed it’s engineering and marketing divisions in the early 1990s, and more than doubled capacity by building their 30 MGY facility in York, NE in 1994.
Since 1995, ICM has developed a very successful new design for DDG dryers and currently markets to more than seventy five percent of that market. ICM also entered into a partnership with Phoenix Bio-Systems. Dr. Joseph Ruocco, principal of Phoenix, has over twenty years of brewery and ethanol production experience and designed the ICM/Phoenix Bio-Methanator, a high rate treatment system for organics in wastewater. The Methanator, combined with ICM’s ethanol plant design, results in a true zero process water discharge ethanol plant.
